My role in this project

Leading the research & design process of creating a new B2C and B2B platform for dealing with digital second use cups and dishes at events and deposit bottles at deposit machines. First kind of platform in Baltics to help digitise this industry.
Fully responsive design system to help keep consistency in over 500 design screens while working together with backend and frontend developers in a constantly changing environment.

Information architecture

Since there are a lot of different functionalities included in this project, best way to approach these unknowns are to lay them out in a unified map. By doing that it’s very easy to be on the same page with stakeholders and developers. Design process can afterwards be tackled by looking at user flows.

Usability testing

Out of all research methods, user testing was the most helpful tool in this project. The validation of main user flows with high-fidelity Figma prototypes showed great insights before doing last changes and giving screens to development.

Scalable design system

Comprehensive set of style tokens, components, and guidelines that ensure consistency across this digital product and experience. Unified naming conventions to be aligned with front-end. This design system is a living entity that evolves over time, adapting to new project goals and user needs.

Collaboration with development

Throughout all of the process there’s strong collaboration with back-end team to make sure we have all the data and we follow the highest security rules for working with financial information. All the while front-end team is translating multiple design flows into functional and responsive user experience.

Solution

The website undergoes thorough testing across various devices and browsers before launching. Same as testing it from design perspective to be sure that everything is developed according to initial sketches. And while accessibility testing assures us that this platform will be usable by people with sight or movement disorders.
The end solution was launched before a nation wide festival where businesses and people were able to try it first-hand.
Post-launch the focus shifts to monitoring key metrics and starting the work on next phase of functionality by adding more depositing ways. Throughout the process, emphasis remains on simplicity, speed, and user-centered design.

Event creation

Events are created by the business profile admin to prepare for an upcoming event where people will be requesting back deposit money for the used glasses and dishes.

User management

Adding and removing users allows the administrators to invite helping staff in these events that will deal with end customers.

Scanning

Scanning functionality allows the end customers to receive the deposit money by specifying the number of item units. Later this functionality is expanded giving end users the ability to scan QR code at bottle deposit points.
